This game made me question a lot at the end. It's not just a game though, it's a lesson. The whole time I was asking myself why was I walking? And I couldn't really come up with an answer until I reached the peak. Maybe the value of a journey isn't reaching the peak to find somebody to give it meaning, but instead for you to give it your own meaning and reason.
I spent 1 hour 16 minutes and 9 seconds of my time on this game, but I didn't waste my time. This game was such a refreshing experience and the narration was amazing; it had such an amazing message and story. My brother kept asking me if I could show him the end, but I told him no — it was his journey to make. I thank the developers who worked hard on not just a game but a lesson.
This genuinely taught me patience. I have dealt with anger issues my whole life and whenever I feel like that again I will come back and remember what this game taught me. Every time I felt like quitting I knew I had to make it to the top for myself.
This genre of video game, where unfairness is used as a form of artistic expression, is one of my favorites, and this game is one of my favorite examples of that sort of experience. There is no grand final boss. There is no Oregon at the end of the trail. The end of the road is really no different from any point in the middle, except for a meaningless change of altitude. I genuinely think this game handles absurdism better than the story of Sisyphus, because at least he had a goal in mind.
This game was a lesson about patience and persistence. The narrator reminded me of the narrator from The Stanley Parable, and having that extra voice amongst the snowy mountains was what pushed me to keep going. Beautiful concept, beautifully made. I love this game — playing it for the first time was truly an experience.
I thought this was just something cute. So I walked, and kept walking. Another penguin stayed close behind. The wind blew, I fell almost to the bottom. I walked back up, and I saw that same penguin waiting for me. The connection grew stronger each step we took, and each battle we fought. Don't ever give up, even if the smallest struggles bring you the farthest. Admire your steps and the progress made.
Why did I spend hours playing this game? Why did I come back after giving up? Why did I cry once I finished it? But why? I'll never know, but what I do know is that this game is amazing. Thank you devs.
I was supposed to sleep early, until I found But Why? and my life changed. The narrator is very comforting and his voice is warm. I love this game so much. I am currently playing while typing this as I can't seem to leave the game. Best game ever.
Keep up the amazing work! Your games definitely won't go unnoticed. They're truly wonderful and incredibly inspiring. They deserve so much more attention and many more players!
It's an awakening to reality. Whatever you do there's always going to be something that pushes you back down, but you just have to get back up and carry on. It's just like a reflection of life.
Why did I play this? I thought it was another obby but no — it was the most inspirational game I've ever played. No matter how many times I was knocked down I got back up, and with the mental support from the narrator I finally did it after 1 hour.
I really liked this game because it tested my patience and ability to not give up in spite of circumstances. I like the philosophy behind it too — that there isn't really a reward besides the journey of traversing the mountain.
I played But Why? and continued for hours and hours to try and reach the end. I did it. And even though there was nothing at the end? It was worth it. The satisfaction of knowing — seeing it was possible. Truly magnificent.
But Why? is a beautiful game about pushing forward despite how much life may push you back. In the end you will reach your goal and feel good.
I made a friend along the way to the top and it made the game more fun and encouraged me to keep going if I fell. I really liked the narrator — it felt a bit less lonely going up the mountain, and the voice and words were calming. I don't come across games like these often, so good job.
I LOVED the journey, especially having a narrator made it interesting. I kinda rage quit at one point because I was climbing the tall hill to reach the end and got knocked off many times by the wind. But other than that the game is really calming and peaceful.
We do everything knowing we will die, knowing that we can't live forever, but we still do it. We persevere simply because we want to. As it says at the end of the game, the universe doesn't hate or care about us — it just is. So just like the universe just exists, we just do.
This game taught me that I succeed because I don't give up. I'm glad I found this game.
You just completed one of the greatest feats in your life — you persevered and showed determination. For me it was friendship. So ask yourself "why?" and then go touch some grass after completing this game.
I am a bird and yet I can't fly, so I will climb the highest mountain so that I may touch the sky.
There doesn't have to be a reason why. It will be okay, little penguin. You are doing good. Keep going.
Just got done with a run. Well, sorta. Was climbing up the hill and got blown off, retried it, got blown off again. Did this about 18 more times and counting. I think I'm done for the night.
As I sat alone atop that barren peak I asked myself "but why?" and to answer that question, I said "no reason, just because you could".
We all know that life was never meant to be easy, and this helped me prove that. Anyways, this game is peak. And when I say peak I mean it's amazing. Keep up the work!
Friends, memories, enemies, succession, tears — all a game could ever need.
One of the best narrative games in a while. It's very nice and relaxing to play. Please make more games like it.
